The Hatchery (Now Playing)

Egg laying hens begin their lives at the hatchery, but half of all hatched birds are male. Since a male chicken is never going to lay an egg, they are discarded.

Female chicks begin their life of confinement with the brutal searing of their beak.

This scene is an examination of the life and death of newly hatched birds in the egg industry.

Note: the music in this scene is composed and performed by Daniel Griffin.
